Oxygen is used as plasma cutting gas and auxiliary gas on laser cutting, and may be mixed with shielding gases, in small amounts, on carbon and stainless steel welding. The cutting operation is executed by an Oxygen jet which oxidizes the metal that, with the heat evolution, expels the cutting slag.
