Oxygen is used as plasma cutting gas and auxiliary gas on laser cutting. Oxygen can be mixed with shielding gases, in small amounts, on carbon and stainless steel welding. The cutting operation is executed by an Oxygen jet which oxidizes the metal - with the heat evolution - and expels the cutting slag.
